Pat Hogarth

Born in Paisley, July 28th 1934.
She studied dance and joined a small touring company called the Celtic Ballet. In the late 50’s she started painting.  She met the artist and illustrator Paul Hogarth and they were married in 1960 and had a son, Toby. From the early 60’s they spent much time in Deya, becoming part of the circle around Robert Graves for whom she became a favourite, often dancing for him. She travelled constantly. She developed a growing mastery of technique and by the ‘70’s her work was distinctive and recognisable.  She received Scottish Art Council awards in 1969, ’71,’75, and ’76. She was staying in a hotel in Broughty Ferry and tragically it was there, alone, that she died on July 26th 2002.
